Cloves

Just like nutmeg, we owe cloves to the so-called Spice Islands, an Indonesian group of islands. In Europe, the clove gained fame especially after the Crusades, while it was in demand in China and India in the times before Christ and it was also used in ancient Egypt. The clove tree produces flowers that are usually harvested and dried before they bloom, i.e. in bud form. The smell of the clove is aromatic and spicy, the taste woody and sharp. It is not only a noble spice, but has always been a remedy
