Hemp is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world and has always been valued for its useful seeds and fibers. The plant, which probably originally came from Central Asia, was already cultivated in China and Persia in prehistoric times. The seeds can be used directly as food, but nowadays they are primarily used as a raw material for the production of hemp oil. In both cases there is no risk of intoxication, as the seeds do not contain any significant amount of the psychoactive ingredients. The slightly nutty tasting seeds contain a large proportion of the extremely healthy linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acid).
