The herb and medicinal plant comes from an Indonesian group of islands called the Moluccas (also known as the Spice Islands) and has made its way into kitchens all over the world via the tropical regions of Southeast Asia and India. In the 9th century, the spice reached Europe from Alexandria, where it quickly became one of the most popular spices. The yellowish flowers of the nutmeg tree produce fruits, whose kernels are called nutmegs, even if strictly speaking they are not nuts. The nutmeg is wrapped in a seed coat called mace. The characteristic aroma of nutmeg unfolds when it is ground and goes perfectly with potato dishes, Christmas cookies, soups, sauces, stews and much more.
The product is available in conventional and certified organic quality.
