The yellow rapeseed fields produce seeds from which an edible oil suitable for cold and hot cooking can be obtained and it has been one of the most important for some time. The rapeseed oil pressed for this purpose comes from rapeseed genotypes with less bitter and incompatible ingredients that have been developed over the past decades. Previously, rapeseed was valued more in engineering etc. and is still widely used for bio-fuels, lubricants, etc. In ancient Rome the oil was mostly used as a lamp oil, but sometimes also as an edible oil. Rapeseed originates from the eastern Mediterranean and has a cultivation history that goes back thousands of years. In India there are corresponding finds from 2,000 B.C..
